LASER TATTOO REMOVAL

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many treatments will I need?

Tattoo removal treatments vary greatly depending on many variables. Most patients need a minimum of 3 treatments, while others may need up to 10 or more. We take into consideration the age, size, and location of your tattoo, patient health, pre-existing scarring, type of tattoo ink used, ink density, ink depth, skin type, and other factors.

To allow the skin enough and immune system enough time to heal between treatments to flush out your shattered ink, it’s recommended to have a minimum six-week waiting period between each laser session – and eight weeks for darker complexions. Scheduling laser tattoo removal treatments too close together can cause damage and unwanted side effects to the skin as it doesn't allow the body enough time to remove the ink that was shattered at the most recent session.

What other considerations affect removal times?

The speed of removal depends on specific conditions related to the patient and their tattoo.

Using some of the factors taken into consideration in the Kirby-Desai scale, a commonly used tool for determining the number of treatments a tattoo will need for complete removal, Classic Ink Tattoo Removal can provide an estimate of the number of treatments required to remove specific tattoos. The Kirby-Desai scale accounts for several of the actors that affect the rate of removal:

  • Fitzpatrick skin type

  • Tattoo layering (if the tattoo is a cover-up)

  • Location on the body

  • Ink colors

  • Amount of ink (vividness of tattoo, if it was professionally applied)

  • Pre-existing scarring

Besides the factors listed above, there are others to consider. If a patient is physically fit and has a strong immune system, they will tend to see results faster than a patient with health problems. We encourage clients to exercise, drink ample water, and massage the treated area (once healed) to get the best results.

How much does laser tattoo removal cost?

Classic Ink determines the price per treatment based on the size of the tattoo being treated. Virtually all tattoos require multiple treatments to target the varying layers of ink that make up a tattoo. We also provide treatment packages and special discounts to help save you more and to make tattoo removal an affordable option for all. All initial laser tattoo removal consultations are free. Does the laser hurt?

The laser sensation is often compared to a rubber band repeatedly snapping against the skin, but this varies from person to person. There is a level of discomfort that’s involved with laser tattoo removal, but most people can manage it without any pain reducing techniques. Ask about Classic Ink Tattoo Removal’s skin numbing solutions to relieve pain and maximize comfort.

Are there any side effects?

Laser tattoo removal is the safest method for removing unwanted ink. Classic Ink uses the latest, most advanced laser technology to deliver the best treatments for every skin type. The most common side effects of laser tattoo removal are:

  • Redness

  • Tenderness

  • Swelling

  • Blistering

  • Scabbing

  • Bruising

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Hypopigmentation

All these side effects are temporary and will heal over the 6 to 8 weeks following each laser session. Furthermore, these effects are natural reactions to treatment and positive signs that your immune system is eliminating the ink from your skin.

Can you lighten for cover-ups?

Yes! At Classic Ink Tattoo Removal, most of our clients ask about lightening an older tattoo so that it can be easily covered up with a new tattoo. As body art experts, we can also make specific recommendations on which areas of your tattoo to lighten up to ensure the cover-up is easier to accomplish, which allows for a wider range of artwork to be selected.

Come into the studio for a free consultation. From there, we can discuss how laser tattoo removal works with the cover-up process. We’ll connect you with one of our talented tattoo cover-up artists once your tattoo is sufficiently faded.
